Making the title sequence

In out title sequence, we start with long takes. Instead of straight cuts, we used fades to move the film along, adding more a flow between the sequence. The font is placed in the right bottom corner, using Adobes own font called 'Adobe castan pro' in regular size. As we start seeing the action, the shots speed up a tad and we come away from fades and into straight cuts. When the antagonist starts cleaning, the fades begin again. At the end when the screen cuts to black, and the title just pops up. it doesn't fade in. This sequence can be seen in the first draft blog.

Making an ident

At first, Beata wanted Rabid Swan. It was safe to say none of us like that so it was decided it was going to be named Dark Swan, which is much better because out thriller is dark and gothic. However the ident made by Beata wasn't what we wanted, so Jake decided to create one. in the end it was Dark productions instead of JARB Productions.

Jake screen recorded a Gif/Jif of a candle flickering and put it into imovie. He then went to an online website where he could download fonts in front of a green background. Once he had downloaded the font he wanted to put it through the green screen function on imovie and added it to the candle shot where he got the final ident. Jake made two versions with different fonts incase the group didn't like the one he selected.

Audience feedback

Question 1: Did you like the film?
Overall we had positive feedback, Everyone said that they enjoyed the film.

Question 2: Did you understand the storyline?

Almost everyone said that they completely understood the storyline with only one person saying that they had some questions which were about why the character did what she did.

Question 3: Is there anything that you think we should reconsider?

A small amount of the people raised concern about the organisation of the final shots but most of the people felt that the organisation was not much of a problem.

Question 4: Are there any other comments about the film that you would like to make regarding anything?

For this question one person said that the sound may need to be looked at as it broke the continuity of the film.

So what was changed?
Slight tweak to the sound and cut down the length of one shot. Like I said in the rough cut post, I doubted that we needed to change much on the film

Screening

The film was shown to some students in year 13, who had already made a thriller so they knew what to expect. They responded really well with the film and any worry was eliminated with the feedback we received.

'Runaway' first draft and Evaluation

This is a practically finished film, but we're going to get all the audience feedback and see if there are any changes that need to be made. Overall we like this version of the film and may only need to make a few slight changes, if we need to make any at all...

Evaluation Q6 - What have you learned about technologies from the process of constructing this product

Blogger - Before this, I had no previous experience of using any previous blogging website. I've learnt how to embed videos, prezis, slideshare's and more. To actually embed these, I had to learn how to use the HTML, having to copy the codes from websites so I code them into the blogs. Blogger has become a fundamental part of the process, with me having to constantly keep it up to date.

Youtube- I had a lot of experience with Youtube before this. However, only watching video, not uploading. I had to set up my own channel so I could upload things such as my Preliminary task. It was also helpful in research, when watching back scenes for my research posts.

Imac- I've never used an imac before, so at the beginning I found it really hard to get used to as I've only ever used a windows computer. I now feel 100x more confident on an imac and believe I'm good at using it's software now, but I still need a bit more time and practice

Popplet/Prezi/Slideshare/Infogram/Emaze- I've never used these software's before, but after using them for my evaluation questions I'd definitely use them again. They were really useful and were a much more creative solution than some boring blogs. I wasn't a massive fan of emaze. Popplet and infogram were my favourites.

Camera and Tripod- I had no qualms using this equipment because I have previously used it in GCSE, so I was confident with it

Adobe premiere pro- I was new to this, but I grasped it quite quickly. The only thing i struggled with was importing/ exporting and finding effects such as 'fade'

Evaluation Q5 - How did you attract/ address your audience?

Powered by emaze

Evaluation Q4 - Who would be the audience for your media product?

Evaluation Q3 - What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Evaluation Q2 - How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Evaluation Q1 - In what ways does your media product, use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

First, Second, Third day and fourth day of Editing

First day of editing - Friday 13th February

The fist day of editing i was unfortunately not in, but we had prepared before hand. I told the team to make sure they upload everything and sort through the shots they liked. I got told by Jake that they had done this and that the team overall was happy with the shots we got. Jake also told me that they hadn't decided which order we was going to edit. I also got told that Beata was responsible for a lot of the editing and there was a total 382 shots.

Second Day of editing - Tuesday 17th February

We finally starting sorting shots together and got to about halfway through editing. Again, Beata was mostly responsible while we made important decisions.

Third day of editing - Tuesday 3rd March

So we just carried on like Tuesday the 17th, while I helped update some of the planning blogs. Me and Afsana have focused mostly on updating blogs while Jake and Beata helped each other editing.

Fourth of editing - Friday 6th March

Today I added more input. Telling Beata some shots I thought should be shorter etc.

Problems during editing

I wouldn't say 'problems', because they happen to everyone and cant be prevented, they're just time consuming.

'Problem' 1
Copying the film footage to the computer took a long time, because we had so much.

'Problem' 2
Another problem was that the computer was slow and that it would continuously crash showing the 'Spinning Wheel Of Death' which meant that our editing took longer.

2nd day of filming

The second day of filming went well. we re-recorded the scenes at Jakes house because we wanted to make sure it was perfect and we had the correct materials (we had blood this time). The day went well, we finished all the hot we wanted and needed, but we'll probably change our mind during editing and may have to re do some shots, but nothing too big.

Style of Editing

"CUT!"
CutThe most basic type of shot transition, the cut is the most common way to join two shots.
Graphic Match

Graphic MatchThe cut joins together two pieces of film that contain two similarly shaped objects in similar positions in the frame.

Jump cutA jump cut is usually the result of a continuity error, and not a stylistic choice by the director. A jump cut occurs when a cut, designed to act merely as a camera angle change (less than 30 degrees), reveals a continuity error between the two shots.

Dissolve
Fade in/outfade occurs when the picture gradually turns to a single colour, usually black, or when a picture gradually appears on screen. Fade ins generally occur at the beginning of a film or, while fade outs are typically found at the end of a film.

DissolveLike the fade, a dissolve involves gradually changing the visibility of the picture. However, rather than transitioning from a shot to a colour, a dissolve is when a shot changes into another shot gradually.

wipe
Wipewipe involves one shot replacing another, traveling from one side of the frame to another.

1st day of filming

On the first day of filming, we went to Asda and asked if we could film. Sadly, the manager said that we wasn't allowed, so we hd to proceed to sainsburys as our back up. Thankfully, they said we could quickly film for a small period of the time, so we had to quickly film the shots and get out of there. We then went to jakes house to try and finish the shots, however, we couldn't create fake blood so we had to wait until later in the week. I feel we worked very well as a team.

Rough Sketch/Explanation of location and key points to note
We plan to do it in the car park and so we decided the asda car park. Its very spacious and not so cramped, in our narrative we wanted somewhere where the main character can shop and then go towards the car park.

Access to location via:
Bus or Car

Name and number of location contact:
ASDA Dagenham Superstore
Merrielands Crescent
Dagenham, Essex RM9 6SJ
Number- 020 8984 7633
Health and Safety Issues to note:
·                Car Park so need to be careful of the cars that pass by
·                Car parks can be busy, with trolley and kids passing by so making sure we don't knock or bump into anything
·                Rainy days so making sure we all wear appropriate footwear so no one gets injured. E.g. slip and beak an ankle.
Potential Filming Problems :

     ●    Making sure the camera is charged, so it doesn't die out on the the day of shooting
·                Making sure the camera doesn't drop as its outside and it  is concrete.
·                Keeping all the equipment together as its a busy car park and could potentially get lost.
